Pacific Perceptions Study provides insights of New Zealander’s view of the Pacific

The Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) will shortly release its first Pacific Perceptions Study of New Zealander’s views of the Pacific Region.

Research firm Kantar Public conducted the nationwide study.

“Aotearoa New Zealand’s engagement with the Pacific Islands has evolved over the decades, and the population's views of the region have become more diverse,” says PCF's Project Manager David Vaeafe.

"Beginning in the 1950’s, we saw Pacific migration begin to fill a labour shortage need and with that came its challenges. Kiwi views were polarised, and the country saw the Dawn Raids period.

Fast forward to today, and Aotearoa New Zealand’s population has diversified with a unique perspective on the Pacific and our engagement.”

We see the study being a resource to inform our future work and that of other partnering stakeholders, be it Government, business, or civil society, in engaging with the Pacific region”, he said.

The Study will be released in June and will be available on the PCF website.
