Declaration: A Feminist Agenda

 

Declaration: A Pacific Feminist Agenda is an exhibition being held currently at the Toi o Tāmaki Auckland Art Gallery. It features 12 artists from the Pacific region whose work explores what it means to be feminist, within a Pacific lens, set against a backdrop of current issues. 

On show from 26 March – 31 July 2022 work is featured by Jasmine Togo-Brisby, Marti Friedlander, Jessicoco Hansell, Taloi Havini, Lonnie Hutchinson, Ioane Ioane, Sione Monū, Suzanne Tamaki, Latai Taumoepeau, Molly Rangiwai-McHale & Luisa Tora and Kalisolaite ’Uhila. 

Featured works include never been seen before pieces that have been held in private institutions and collections. Listen to curator, Ane Tonga, as she speaks with artist Suzanne Tamaki about her artwork that combines fashion and photography to express political culture messages. 

A provocative and challenging exhibition, well-known activist Shaneel Lal says “it encourages you to challenge your own biases”.
