The Pacific Mini Games 2022 – Northern Marianas

The last two years have played havoc with international sporting events. With loosening restrictions this year events have started to recommence including the Pacific Mini Games. Not to be confused with the Pacific Games, the Pacific Minis were created in 1981 to enable some of the smaller nations and territories to compete and hold the event.

The event was first hosted by the Solomon Islands, followed by the Cooks Island, Tonga, Vanuatu, American Samoa, Norfolk Island, Palau, Cook Islands again, Wallis & Futuna and Vanuatu again.

This year on 17 June Micronesia’s Northern Marianas will hold the Pacific Mini Games Opening Ceremony aptly themed Rising up to the Challenge.

This year the following countries are participating:

  • Northern Mariana Islands

  • American Samoa

  • Australia

  • Cook Islands

  • Federated States of Micronesia

  • Fiji

  • Guam

  • Kiribati

  • Nauru

  • New Caledonia

  • Norfolk Island

  • Palau

  • Papua New Guinea

  • Samoa

  • Solomon Islands

  • Tahiti

  • Tonga

  • Tuvalu

  • Vanuatu

  • Wallis & Futuna

One of the most popular viewer sports is the Va’a – the only indigenous sport on the programme. While fiercely contested, Tahiti has won the majority of golds for this event since 2013 when it was added.

The Pacific Mini Games has a full schedule that runs from 16 – 25 June. Click here to view the timetable.
