Pacific Cooperation Foundation Welcomes New Board Members: Professor Rouben Azizian, Seumalu Shelley Burich, and Anne Fitisemanu 

Auckland, New Zealand – The Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) is proud to announce the appointment of three new board members: Professor Rouben Azizian, Seumalu Shelley Burich, and Anne Fitisemanu. These leaders bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will help drive PCF’s mission to build resilient and prosperous communities across the Pacific region. 

Anne Fitisemanu, who will serve as Chair of the PCF Board, is a dedicated advocate for Pacific leadership and development, with over 20 years of experience in health, education, and community engagement. Her commitment to amplifying Pacific voices and fostering meaningful connections aligns with PCF’s strategic objectives and will provide strong guidance in PCF’s initiatives to deepen relationships and strengthen Pacific identity in Aotearoa and beyond. 

Professor Rouben Azizian brings extensive expertise in international relations, security, and strategic studies. Currently, Honorary Professor and former Director of Massey university's Centre for Defence and Security Studies, Chair of the Auckland Branch of the New Zealand Institute of International Affairs and Editor-in-Chief of the National Security Journal his background includes senior roles in foreign service, academia, and regional security forums. Professor Azizian’s insights will be invaluable as PCF continues to engage in issues of geopolitical significance in the Pacific and address the impact of strategic competition in the region. 

Seumalu Shelley Burich is a prominent figure in the Pacific community, with a strong background in education and community development. Known for her strategic vision and commitment to advancing Pacific aspirations, Seumalu brings a unique perspective to PCF’s board. Her experience in developing and implementing initiatives that address social and economic challenges will support PCF’s mission of building partnerships that promote sustainable growth and opportunities for Pacific communities. 

“As we look towards a dynamic future, our new board members will provide crucial expertise to further our mission of advocating for Pacific communities and fostering cross-cultural partnerships,” said Joanna Bourke, CEO of the Pacific Cooperation Foundation. “Anne, Rouben, and Shelley each bring invaluable knowledge that will strengthen PCF’s work in shaping a prosperous Pacific future.” 

These appointments reflect PCF’s commitment to advancing Pacific-led initiatives and deepening its strategic relationships across the region. Together with the rest of the board, they will oversee and guide PCF’s programs, including internships, geopolitical research, and efforts to amplify Pacific voices.
