Pacific Languages Community Fund Now Open

Applications are now open for the Pacific Languages Community Fund.

The fund has been established to support the retention and revitalisation of Pacific languages in New Zealand. Initiated by the Ministry of Pacific People (MPP), the fund will be directed at programmes that align with the key objectives of the Pacific Languages Strategy.

The Pacific Languages Community Fund aims to support community-led initiatives that:

  • Raise the value of Pacific languages across New Zealand

  • Strengthen pathways and resources for learning Pacific languages and learning in Pacific languages;

  • Create environments for Pacific languages to be used more often, and in more spaces.

Citizens or permanent residents of New Zealand and of Pacific descent or those providing services to a Pacific audience are invited to apply.

Registered groups with the MPP and groups representing a Pacific owned and/or operated group or organisation are also invited to apply.

The outcomes of this initiative are envisaged to support, revitalise and increase the number of speakers of the Pacific languages, enhance cultural identity and promote cultural confidence.

Applicants can apply for up to $50,000. Applications close at 5pm on Friday, 29 July 2022.
