Celebrating Bastille Day with the French: A Day of Unity and Celebration

Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF) recently had the privilege of attending the Bastille Day celebrations hosted by the Ambassador of France to New Zealand, Samoa, and the Cook Islands, HE Laurence Beau. The event was held at the swanky SO Hotel in Auckland City, where guests were treated to magnificent views on a clear, blue-skied winter day overlooking the Waitemata Harbour with Rangitoto and Great Barrier Island in view.

The ambiance of the day was perfectly complemented by the melodious sounds of choirs performing in Takutai Square in Britomart, promoting the World Choir Games. The atmosphere was further enhanced by the free-flowing champagne and wines, and the convivial hosting by the French, making it a perfect day to celebrate culture. Adding to the significance of the event, Kiwi Paralympian Mitch Joynt shared his inspiring journey as he prepares to travel to Paris to compete in the Paralympics.

PCF was honored to be invited to this event. The French Embassy, alongside a long list of sponsors, showcased an array of delectable French fare, contributing to the overall festive spirit.

Strengthening Identity, Deepening Relationships, and Amplifying Voices

Attending such events is not only a pleasure but also integral to PCF’s mission and strategic objectives. These gatherings provide a unique platform to stay updated on the work being done in New Zealand and the Pacific region, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse cultural ties that bind us.

Strengthening Identity: Events like Bastille Day celebrations reinforce New Zealand's identity as a Pacific nation with a rich tapestry of cultural influences. By participating in these celebrations, we embrace and acknowledge the contributions of different cultures, enhancing our collective identity.

Deepening Relationships: Our presence at such events helps in reframing and strengthening strategic relationships. Engaging with international diplomats allows us to build and nurture partnerships that are crucial for regional cooperation and development.

Amplifying Voices: These events provide a platform to amplify independent Pacific voices and expertise. Sharing stories and experiences, such as those of Mitch Joynt, highlights the diverse talents and achievements within our community, inspiring others and fostering a sense of pride and unity.

PCF extends heartfelt thanks to the French Embassy for the invitation and the opportunity to celebrate this iconic day. We look forward to continuing to build strong, respectful, and prosperous relationships across New Zealand and the Pacific region.

Looking Forward

As we reflect on this splendid day, we are reminded of the importance of cultural exchange and the role it plays in fostering understanding and cooperation. PCF remains committed to its vision of resilient and prosperous Pacific peoples, enriched by fair and respectful relationships. We eagerly anticipate future collaborations and celebrations that bring us closer together as a community.
