In her own words: Moira Simmons-Avafoa

News 21 Dec 2018

My work assignment with the Pacific Cooperation Foundation has been a compact, fulfilling and interesting journey. As part of the Smaller Island States attachment programme, I landed an assignment with PCF for the month of December 2018 which helped me understand the dynamics and socio- cultural initiatives of Maori in New Zealand.

As the Senior Advisor of the Pacific Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, trade, Tourism, Environment and Labour of Tuvalu, this assignment has been an eye-opening experience. As part of the assignment, I worked with the Programme Development Manager, Ms. Linda Kaua on initiatives involving Maori and Iwi that are relevant to Pacific Island countries.

And equally interesting, my journey at PCF revealed connections far more than this. Ms. Fipe Salabogi, connected me to my cousin Robert Fuata, whose wife Maria works at PCF. Robert and his family have settled in New Zealand for over fifteen years and connecting with my cousin will always be a treasured memory, thanks to PCF. Thank you Craig Strong, Glynis Miller and Tasha Siaosi for allowing me to work with the passionate PCF team.

Fakafetai lasi to Linda Kaua for the guidance and best wishes, and blessings to everyone for the rest of 2018.
