More than a hundred Fijians, including other nationalities, gathered at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel in Apia to commemorate Fiji’s 48thyear of Independence, which falls on October 10.
The Tanoa Tusitala Hotel in Apia was a sea of blue and white on Saturday night as the Samoa Fijian community celebrated Fiji Day on a high.
Chief Guest, University of the South Pacific Alafua Campus Head of Agriculture, Mohammed Umar said the celebration is a time for the Fijian community to come together and celebrate Fiji’s Independence Day.
It is more significant that the community still celebrates with the whole of Fiji, despite being in another country, he said.
Mr. Umar also acknowledged the joined efforts of every Fijian in Samoa to make the event a successful one.
Fiji was ceded to Great Britain on October 10, 1874 and gained its independence on October 10, 1970.
