PCF extends a warm welcome to Johan Lafitte, who joins Helene as PCF’s Marketing and Communications intern. Johan, who jokingly refers to himself as ‘Monsieur Lafitte’, is the second eldest of four children in his family and lives in Noumea, New Caledonia, where he was born and raised.
Although he holds New Caledonia close to his heart, Johan hopes to work abroad where he will get the chance to see more of the world. His placement at PCF marks his second time visiting New Zealand and he admires the strong influence the Pacific culture has in the country.
Describing himself as a people person, Johan believes marketing is the perfect field for him.
“I’m interested in marketing because I like to analyse the impact its functionality has on people, working out what makes people think a certain way, so we can come up with effective marketing campaigns. I see myself as a Director of a ‘hypermarket’ which is a combination of supermarket and department stores. I think people here in New Zealand call it ‘The Warehouse’.”
During the Pacific Wave Forum, Johan assisted with setting up the event. A highlight was meeting the New Caledonia representative, Baptiste Faure, who is the Secretary General of the General Confederation of Small and Medium Enterprises of New Caledonia (GCSME).
“I now have a valuable contact in the private sector back at home. This will definitely put me in a good position after I finish my studies. Thank you PCF, for allowing me to learn more about topics such as NCDs, climate change finance and PACER Plus. I’ve gained so much knowledge and met a number of great people who I now consider my mentors.”
