Co-operative businesses have the ability to assist Fiji in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Shaheen Ali says the SDG’s call for closer partnership between all stakeholders in implementing an ambitious plan for action for people and prosperity.
Ali says the 2018 International Co-operatives Day theme of Sustainable Consumption and Production of Goods and Services focuses on the development of partnerships.
“Co-operatives are in a unique position to help achieve the SDG’s, as they are natural drivers that can work towards the development of grass-root communities.”
Ali says taking heed of this, it’s imperative for co-operatives to safeguard community relations, enhance local resources, advocate social responsibility and adopt sustainable and long-term business practises.
Meanwhile, after three decades, the 2018 International Co-operatives Day celebrations were conducted in Suva yesterday.
