Hon. Rimbink Pato, Papua New Guinea Minister for Foreign Affairs and Immigration, was in Auckland earlier this week as the New Zealand Papua New Guinea Business Council celebrated its 25th Anniversary at the Stamford Plaza. On Tuesday the Minister and his officials hosted the Executive Committee of the NZ PNG Business Council to a working lunch, to discuss issues and solutions that can enhance the trading relationship between the two countries.
Hosted by Francis Agwi, the PNG High Commissioner, the visit was timely with growing trade initiatives apparent with the strong PNG presence at Auckland’s Pasifika Festival.
“It was pleasing and fitting that a senior minister of the Papua New Guinea government and, in fact the Commonwealth, was on hand to commission Dr Peter Goldsmith as the Hon Consul General in Auckland,” says Craig.
“It’s a relationship that continues to strengthen, as shown by the visit of the Minister himself, signalling the importance of the relationship between New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.”
