Seeing the businesses participating in the Pacific Path to Market Mission hosted by Pacific Trade & Invest (PTI) on March 23-27 brought out the increasing diversity of trade between New Zealand and the Pacific region.
The stronger presence of Melanesian businesses is also welcomed and it was great to see the Papua New Guinea makers of bilum bags selling so well at the Pasifika Festival, despite the weather. Not only were they a hit at Pasifika, our museums, including Te Papa, were also snapping them up.
There was a real buzz on the final day of the Mission with the Business to Business meetings held at the Te Mahurehure Marae in the central Auckland suburb of Pt Chevalier. It’s a speed-dating type of event with potential New Zealand buyers and suppliers getting together.
The overall branding and packaging of Pacific business has improved markedly throughout the years, thanks to PTI.
