Earlier in December, ANZ hosted a New Zealand Papua New Guinea Business Council (NZPNGBC) After Five event.
Chair of NZPNGBC Tamati Norman says a highlight of the evening was hearing ANZ PNG CEO Mark Baker speak on the economy from a banking sector perspective, via a video call from Port Moresby.
“Mark was very candid, open and comprehensive with the 40-odd businesses that attended, including some new faces from diverse business backgrounds, which was refreshing,” Tamati says.
Papua New Guinea has been through a very challenging economic period which has impacted importers and exporters with a significant shortfall in Forex, he explains.
“Mark provided some great insights for members and offered support for the businesses that were present with the repatriation of funds.
“He said supporting their current ANZ customers businesses was critical to them.”
The NZPNGBC is going to be holding After Five events throughout 2018, and a calendar of events will be sent out in the near future.
The Council is also planning a Trade Mission to Papua New Guinea in late February/March, which it is excited about, Tamati says.
He also encourages anyone to start following NZPNGBC on Facebook and LinkedIn, as the Council will be posting stories from PNG regularly to help people keep up to date.
“There is plenty on the horizon for 2018 for the NZPNGBC and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year - we wish you a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
