Pacific Cooperation Broadcasting Limited’s (PCBL) Pasifika TV is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Cooperation Foundation (PCF).
PCBL was established in April 2015 with the overall aim to build stronger relationships in the Pacific region by supporting the media sector.
It is a New Zealand Government initiative, funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT) and PCF, designed to support local people in the industry across the Pacific region.
Pasifika TV aims to deliver more NZ originated content (including sports, news, documentaries, and entertainment) via satellite to free-to-air broadcasters across the Pacific, while also supporting Pacific free-to-air broadcasters to receive and rebroadcast the content to local audiences.
It also encourages the production of local content.
Various NZ broadcasters, production companies and content rights holders support the initiative where more than 14 Pacific broadcasters will receive up to eight hours of each day of TV programmes at no cost.
The Pacific Islands who will initially be able to receive the free-to-air content are Cook Islands, Niue, Tonga, Fiji, Samoa, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea.
PCF is responsible for the implementation of the initiative, which fits with its objectives of connecting and collaborating with the public and private sectors to promote partnership and sustainable development initiatives to grow and expand Pacific businesses.
The Foundation also engages with Pacific businesses and communities to showcase the best the region has to offer.
We have engaged with a range of partners who have agreed to provide content, at no cost, for the initiative. They currently include:
- New Zealand on Air
- NZ broadcasters: TVNZ, MediaWorks, SKY Television, Prime, Maori Television and Parliament TV
- Sports rights holders: SANZAR, NZ Cricket, NZ Rugby, Basketball NZ
- NZ production houses: South Pacific Pictures, Showdown Productions, Lippy Pictures, Top Shelf Productions, Leftfield, Screentime Productions and North Reef Productions.
